Founder & Principal, Herring Group

Eric Dickson is the founder and principal of Herring Group, a custom residential general contracting firm focused on whole-home renovations, additions, and complex remodeling projects throughout Morris and Somerset Counties.

 

Eric’s foundation in construction was established early. Raised in Basking Ridge, New Jersey as the son of a plumbing, heating, and air-conditioning contractor, he grew up immersed in the trades, learning hands-on skills in his family’s on-site shop. He worked alongside his father throughout high school and later for a plumbing contractor while attending Rutgers University, gaining practical field experience long before entering the professional construction world.

 

After college, Eric began his career with one of the largest interior construction firms in the tri-state area. As a Superintendent, he managed high-end corporate fit-outs for blue-chip clients and oversaw the construction of multiple large-scale data centers for major financial institutions. His work demanded precision, speed, and coordination at the highest level.

 

Several years into his career, Eric was asked to relocate to the firm’s New York City office, where his first assignment was leading a thirteen-floor law office build-out in Midtown Manhattan. The project—an $80 million contract with a four-month delivery schedule—set the tone for what followed: increasingly complex, high-pressure projects in some of the most demanding construction environments in the country.

 

Over the course of 16 years in Manhattan, Eric advanced into project management and client-facing leadership roles, sharpening his ability to anticipate client concerns, manage risk, and deliver results under intense schedule and logistical constraints. Throughout that time, his strengths consistently centered on planning, scheduling, engineering problem-solving, and close collaboration with architects, designers, subcontractors, and ownership teams.

 

Ultimately, Eric chose to bring that experience closer to home—founding Herring Group with a deliberate focus on high-end residential construction. He believes the stakes are higher and the outcomes more meaningful when the project is someone’s home rather than a corporate office. Herring Group is built around clients who value attention to detail, clear communication, disciplined execution, and thoughtful problem-solving.

 

Today, Eric leads Herring Group with the same rigor, structure, and accountability required on large commercial projects—applied to custom homes where quality, trust, and long-term performance matter most.
